Happy New Year 2019! What are your resolutions? I used to make New Year’s Resolutions. Why not? It was fun and made you think about what you wanted to change in the new year. They were a chance for a fresh start!
New Year’s Resolutions
Then I failed almost immediately. I never managed to last more than a week or two. I don’t think many people do. This Forbes article says that just 8% of people manage to keep their New Year’s resolutions. 8%! Two reasons may be that people use resolutions to try and make big, sweeping changes to multiple aspects of their life AND their goals aren’t specific or measurable enough. So I said enough. I spent years not really making resolutions or setting goals. Then Brenda over at The Socialite Suite started talking about a WORD of the Year.
Say what? What is a WORD going to do for me? Turns out, a whole heck of a lot! My first word came about to ring in 2018. It was “IMPLEMENT.” See, I’m a total learn it all. I’ll take all the classes. Go to every seminar. Do all the trainings. I LOVE learning now that I get to pick the things I learn about; but I wasn’t actually doing anything with that knowledge except sharing it occasionally if the topic came up. So for 2018 my goal was to IMPLEMENT what I learned and I didn’t do too shabby. This blog is up and running! We started doing the organization projects we needed in our home. Our homeschool curriculum choices & new school room are working out great. My fitness goals, eek! Can’t get ’em all.
What does that mean for 2019? It means focusing. Instead of a laundry list of items to do or try, I need to FOCUS on the things that matter. My children & homeschool; husband & marriage of 15 years; and my fitness & health. These are my personal focus items. My blog, Pinterest and email list are my professional focus. Of course, I’m going to learn new things and work on side projects but my focus will be on the personal & professional goals that meet the needs of me & my family. So here’s to your 2019. May be it be everything you want it to be!
